Sarah Macklin Shockley, devoted life to God
Sarah Ann Macklin Shockley, the daughter of the late Charles Macklin and Gertrude Neal-Macklin-Davis was born Sept. 3, 1915, in Lincoln. She departed this life Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Bay Health Medical Center in Milford, surrounded by her beloved family as they sang the songs of Zion.
She devoted her life to God and caring for her family and friends. She was known for reciting many poems and quoting scriptures. One of her favorites was the 24th Psalm.
She was a faithful, longtime member of Siloam A.M.E. Church. There she served as a missionary, stewardess and in many other capacities.
Sarah was predeceased by her husband, Bishop David H. Shockley Sr.; daughter Ellen Parker; sons Elder David A. Shockley and Craig Shockley; grandsons Dale Shockley and Oliver Shockley Jr.; brothers Delton Macklin, and Charles Macklin; and sisters Elizabeth Harris and Ellen Hooker.
She leaves to cherish loving memories, seven sons; two daughters; 39 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless other family and friends whom were blessed to know her.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 30, at Jesus Love Temple, 106 South Walnut St., Milford. Viewing will be from 9 to 11 a.m. only.
