Sussex Tech senior Sarah Timmons is crowned Miss Sussex County

December 10, 2012

Sussex Technical High School senior Sarah Timmons was crowned Miss Sussex County 2013 Nov. 10. The honor qualifies her to compete in the 2013 Miss Delaware pageant next June. This was Sarah’s second pageant competition. She became involved in pageants after participating in the Distinguished Young Women’s scholarship program this past summer.

In the Miss Sussex County pageant, Timmons performed a jazz dance routine in the talent division. She has been dancing for 12 years. When asked what qualities represent Miss Sussex County, Sarah responded that “the young lady should reflect what the four points of the Miss America crown stand for - scholarship, success, style and service.”

Timmons will spend the next year representing Sussex County at community parades and events. Her platform is Habitat for Humanity for which she advocates that everyone should have a home.

Timmons' technical area at Sussex Tech is media broadcasting. She is a football and winter cheerleader for the Ravens, and has participated in the school’s drama production of "Hairspray." Sarah has asked Sussex Tech Spanish teacher Shaila Gillis, who is a former Miss Delaware pageant contestant, to be her mentor and coach.

Sarah is the daughter of Charles and Susan Timmons of Millsboro.
