Sylvia Schwartz Chase, founded pre-school

Our beloved Sylvia Schwartz Chase passed away at her home in South Bethany Beach, Wednesday, Nov. 28, after a long battle with cancer. Sylvia was born Nov. 11, 1938, in Wilmington. She was the daughter of the late Meyer Schwartz and Florence Davis.

Sylvia was an accomplished artist specializing in watercolors and acrylics. She loved to entertain her family and friends with her gourmet cooking and creative menus. She was a graduate of P.S. DuPont High School and attended the University of Delaware. She created and operated the Chase Pre-School in Newark for 20 years before retiring. Her great smile, sense of humor and positive attitude will be greatly missed.

Sylvia is survived by her husband of 53 years, Edwin G. Chase; her sons Jeffery Chase of Maitland, Fla., and Todd Chase and his wife Kim of Lake Oswego, Ore.; her daughter Abby and her husband Steger Ryland of Duluth, Ga.; and seven grandchildren, Kyle, Scott, and Jeremy Chase of Maitland, Trevor and Heather Chase of Lake Oswego, and Sophie and Blake Ryland of Duluth.

She was predeceased by her sister, Miriam Paoli; and brothers William and Benjamin Schwartz.

There will be a celebration of her life in Bethany Beach, July Fourth, 2013.
