December 6, 2012

A Milton man, 30, faces charges after police say his vehicle struck another car after swerving along the roadway near Frederica.

Michael N. Lopez was driving a Honda Odyssey minivan southbound on Route 1 at 7:50 p.m. Dec. 5 when someone called 911 to report a vehicle driving erratically, said Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

The minivan crossed a median at the intersection of South Frederica Road and struck a car waiting to turn, Fournier said.

Lopez tried to leave the scene of the crash but police stopped him about a quarter mile away, Fournier said.

Lopez was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, driving while suspended or revoked, second-degree vehicular assault and possession of marijuana. He was released on $5,000 secured bond.

Debra J. Williams, 55, of Felton and her grandson, 9, were taken to Milford Memorial Hospital where they were treated for nonlife-threatening injuries. Lopez was not injured.
