Police: Greenwood man stabs parents

December 10, 2012

Delaware State Police arrested a Greenwood man Dec. 9 after they say he stabbed his parents with a butcher knife.

Ricky A. Brewington, 51, was at his parents home in the 100 block of Broad Street, Greenwood, at 9 a.m. when he used a butcher knife to stab his mother, 80, and father, 82, said Cpl. John Day of the Delaware State Police.

Brewington called 911 from his parents home to report what happened; his parents drove themselves to the Greenwood Fire Department for medical care, Day said.

A Greenwood police officer arrested Brewington at his parent's home without incident, Day said. He was charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder and two counts of possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $150,000 cash bail.

His parents were taken to Nanticoke Hospital where they were admitted in stable condition with multiple stab wounds, Day said.
