Thanks to Rehoboth employees for lovely memorial

December 27, 2012

The following letter was sent to Rehoboth Beach City Manager Greg Ferrese with a copy submitted to the Cape Gazette for publication.

What thoughtful, generous and giving employees to erect such a lovely memorial to the Connecticut shooting victims. It is beautiful. While we were there retirees from Pennsylvania were placing white roses in every wreath and cross. Everyone was stopping for a moment of silent reflection or quiet conversation with each other.

We heard from others that we better express our support to the city because not all city officials were pleased with this memorial.

We first saw it reported on Facebook and, being local, soon made our trek to the Boardwalk. On this bright beautiful day when you want locals and tourists to come into town and patronize local businesses, we found radar being run on Rehoboth Avenue just as you come off the circle and when we left town it was being run on Bayard Avenue heading toward Dewey.

Whoever authorized radar this week - a busy holiday shopping week -- is probably the same one not happy with this memorial. Someone in the city needs to take a lesson from their employees.
