Cadbury at Lewes carries on Christmas traditions

December 30, 2012

An annual tradition for the employees of Cadbury at Lewes is to put on their Secret Santa hats and reach out to the residents of the Assisted Living and Skilled communities. Staff members purchase gifts for the residents and the gifts are presented to the residents by Santa himself.  It is a magical moment for residents and staff.

The Mid-Coast Dancers (Kathy Matson, Jackie Boyd and Cadbury’s own nurse Bobbie Henderson) performed for the residents a tap dance routine to “Winter Wonderland.” The Cadbury Chorus, consisting of residents from Assisted Living, Safe Harbor and Skilled communities, performed a variety of holiday songs, accompanied by guitarist Rob Bolan and pianist Jean Carpenter. Resident Delores Redefer performed a solo of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” and resident Faith Loveless performed a recitation by memory of “'Twas the Night Before Christmas.” The residents closed their program as all performers and the audience joined in singing “Let There Be Peace on Earth.”

The activities staff at Cadbury at Lewes found a special way for the residents of Cadbury’s Assisted Living and Skilled communities to remember a loved one in the creation of the Memory Tree.  Each resident submitted a name of a loved one and placed a glistening white angel on the Memory Tree during a special ceremony. Overhead lights were dimmed, and the tree lights were turned on for the first time of the season. Smiles, as well as tears, were witnessed as everyone gathered around the tree experiencing the spirit of Christmas.

Cadbury at Lewes is a not-for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community that offers seniors independence, safety, financial security and access to all levels of healthcare. The Tides Assisted Living Community features private or semiprivate apartments, delicious meals and compassionate care with services such as bathing, dressing or medication management. The activities calendar includes fitness, arts & crafts, musical entertainment and much more. In the Quaker tradition, Cadbury at Lewes respects the dignity of each individual, while nurturing independence and encouraging the highest possible quality of life.
