The Clear Space Theatre Company of Rehoboth Beach will offer a captivating production of “The Mousetrap” by Agatha Christie in February. The longest-running play in history celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2012, boasting more than 25,000 performances in London’s West End alone.
Directed by Aleta Thompson, who served as an English and drama teacher at Cape Henlopen High School and is a member of the Clear Space acting company, the cast features acting company members David Button, Cheryl Graves, Val Jarrell, John Marino and Dick Pack as well as recent additions to the Clear Space family James Davis, Alison Krauss and Joe DiRocco. Thompson is assisted by Elaine Faye, a professional actress who starred in the Clear Space production of “Shirley Valentine” last fall and also a member of the Clear Space acting company.
The plot of the mystery involves a group of strangers who are snowed in at a stately manor in the English countryside in 1952. A murderer on the loose has already claimed two lives and has now infiltrated the house in search of his (or her) third victim. Who could it be – the owners of the manor? The skittish young architect or the cranky old spinster? The retired army major or the man whose car crashed in a snowdrift? The master of mystery Dame Agatha Christie will keep the audience guessing until the last, with a twist ending that viewers will be sworn to keep secret - a tradition maintained over six decades.
The show opens Feb. 8 and runs through Feb. 24 with shows Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. with a special weekday matinee at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 21.
Reservations are available through the box office, 302-227-2270 or online at www.ClearSpaceTheatre.org under the heading “Purchase Tickets.” Clear Space is offering a special for the upcoming season with five shows available for the price of four. Group rates are also available.
