Veteran prosecutor Peggy Marshall appointed to lead Sussex office

Attorney General Beau Biden has announced that veteran prosecutor Peggy Marshall has been named to the position of Chief Sussex County Prosecutor.  Marshall, who brings 26 years of criminal court experience to this position, will direct the 40 prosecutors, legal support, and victim services personnel who prosecute criminal cases throughout the county.

“Peggy is a well-respected career prosecutor who during her career has handled the full range of criminal cases, including the most difficult cases we prosecute,” Biden said.  “She brings great courtroom and management experience, knowledge, and intellect to this leadership position and I look forward to working with her to make our communities safe.”

Marshall joined the Delaware Department of Justice as a deputy attorney general in 1986 after graduating from Villanova Law School.  She spent the next 15 years in the New Castle County office, prosecuting a range of cases and rising to lead the felony screening and career criminal units.

Since 2001 she has worked in the Sussex County Office where, among other assignments, she prosecuted firearm cases, established the felony screening unit, and headed the felony trial unit.  Most recently, she has headed the felony screening unit and led the prosecution of motor vehicle fatality cases.

Marshall has prosecuted numerous capital and non-capital homicide cases in both Sussex and New Castle counties, including the prosecutions of James Allen RedDog, Allison Lamont Norman and Leslie Small.

Marshall succeeds Sussex County Family Court Judge Paula Ryan who departed the Department of Justice last month after more than five years as Chief Sussex County Prosecutor following her confirmation to the court by the General Assembly.
