Edwin Forrest Booth Jr., retired vice president

Edwin Forrest Booth Jr., 89, of Long Neck, formerly of Wilmington, passed away at the Hospice Center in Milford, Monday, Jan. 7, 2013.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943-46. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He was a graduate of P.S. DuPont High School, class of 1941, where he served as president in his senior year. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Oak Orchard/Riverdale Post No. 28, Millsboro.

After his honorable discharge from the military in 1946, he returned to his pre-war employment with the Benjamin F. Shaw Co. in Wilmington to continue his career that spanned a period of 30 years. He held several positions with Shaw Co. and in 1968 was assigned the duties of vice president, a position he held until his retirement in 1978.

He moved to Sussex County in 1978, worked for a short time at Delmarva Power Indian River Plant, and more recently was employed by the J.W. Stewart Co. from 1987-88 as quality control manager of ASME Code Work and technical sales manager.

After retiring to Sussex County, Ed enjoyed many great years of boating, fishing, crabbing and of course, dancing with his lover Doris.

He is preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey W. Booth, who passed away in 1973; he was almost 16 years old.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Doris D. Booth; two sons, Edwin F. Booth III of Millsboro, and Robert Booth of Bear; two daughters, Lynda Sparks and her husband Paul of Lewes, and Kimberly Zionkowski of Elkton, Md., now living in Chicago, Ill.; brothers, John Booth and wife Marsha, and Jim Booth and wife Jean. In addition he is survived by five stepchildren, Peter McCaffrey of Milton, Karen McCaffrey of Long Neck, Connie Baker and husband Paul of Georgetown, Christine Welsh and husband John of Millsboro, and Teresa McCaffrey of Alexandria, Va. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 11, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St. Millsboro, where friends may call after 10:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
