Robert C. Feeney, retired hospital director

Robert C. Feeney, also known as Bob and Bobbie, 76, passed away suddenly at his home on the morning of Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013.  He was born Jan. 13, 1936 in Wilmington, son of the late George and Ann (Monigle) Feeney.

Bob graduated from Salesianum High School with the class of 1954 and LaSalle College in 1958.  He served in the Delaware Air Guard for several years and spent a lifelong career with the state of Delaware from which he retired as director of the former Delaware State Hospital.

Although he enjoyed his time upstate, Bob loved life at the beach. He enjoyed golfing, boating, crabbing, dancing, spending time with friends and family. Bob was always the life of the party.  He was a proud member of the VFW and he was there quite often telling stories and cracking jokes as he lit up a room.  He loved spending time with his family and dedicated the last years of his life to the care of his physically challenged daughter Cheryl.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Frances Kreider in 2005, and they are finally together again. He is survived by his brother George Feeney and his wife Ginny; his nephew Tom and his wife Kelly and their children, Evan, Connor and Tanner; his two daughters: Debbie Bader and her husband Matthew, and Cheryl Kreider; his son, Keith Kreider; his three granddaughters: Erica Bader, Melissa Bader and Jamie Kreider; numerous cousins and dear friends. Bob will be missed by all who knew him and remembered forever by the legacy he leaves behind.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 17, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Friends may also call from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE 19958. Interment will be at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18, with a chapel service at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave., Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salesianum High School, 1801 N. Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19802.
