Case dismissed against correctional officer

January 18, 2013

A correctional officer charged with having a sexual relationship with an inmate will not face trial.

Daniel L. Mann, 49, of Dover worked for the Sussex Community Correction Center in Georgetown when police say he got involved with a 22-year-old female prisoner.

Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police said the woman told police she had sex with Mann three times between March 2012 and May 2012 at the work release center.

Police charged Mann with three counts of sexual relations in a detention facility. He was scheduled to go to trial Tuesday, Jan. 15.

But the case against Mann was dismissed in judge’s chambers, Jan. 11, the day of his final case review.

According to Jason Miller, spokesman for the Department of Justice, the victim’s whereabouts are unknown, despite efforts to contact her.
