John S. Walls, retired carpenter

John S. Walls, 92, of Milton, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Milford Center in Milford.  John was born in Milton, the son of the late Elzay and Ollie (Warrington) Walls.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. John was a carpenter with John P. Argo Construction Co., retiring in 1983.

He was a former member of the Milton Town Council.  He was a charter member of the Milton VFW; he served as post commander and held other various offices. He was a life member of Milton Volunteer Fire Company and served with the Delaware State Fire Police. He was also a life member of the Odd Fellows, and had been the noble grand and served in other various offices. He was a member of Grace Church in Milton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by her wife, Bernice (Dayton) Walls in 1983; sisters Sara, Lena and Grace Walls and Arzie Spencer; and brothers, Earl and Ralph Walls.

He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Walls Pfeifle of Milton; nephew William T. Spencer of Milton; nieces Norma Short of Georgetown and Lila J. Hoffman of Delmar.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call after 11 a.m.  Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Charles Wagner and staff, Fay, Dee, Crissy and Liz and also the staff of Milford Center, where he had been a resident for the last three-and-a-half years.
