Around the World series to screen "The Piano in a Factory" Feb. 6

January 27, 2013

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society, Lewes Public Library and Movies at Midway will present “The Piano in a Factory” ("Gang de Qin") as February’s film for the Around the World series of critically acclaimed, international independent films. An offbeat ballad of friendship and devotion, “The Piano in a Factory” will be presented at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 6, in the upstairs screening room at Movies at Midway. Admission to this film series is free and open to the public.

Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Miami International Film Festival, this film captures the tempo of changing times with quiet wisdom and a tinge of nostalgia. Steelworker Chen has a passion for music. When his estranged wife returns after years of absence, she demands a divorce and sole custody of their daughter. Chen doesn’t mind divorcing a woman who has become a stranger, but he can’t bear to part with his daughter.

When asked who she wants to live with, the girl gives a practical, devastating answer: she will live with whoever can provide her with a piano. With the help of his loyal friends, a new lover and a healthy imagination, Chen devises a way to win his daughter.
