Bettye Lee Arnold, furniture store owner

Bettye Lee Arnold, 78, of Georgetown, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

She was born in Hagerstown, Md., June 20, 1934. Bettye was married to Alfred Chavez Feb. 14; they were married for 28 years.

Bettye was the owner and manager of Arnold’s Furniture in Rehoboth Beach for many years with her father. She was a singer on the Jackie Gleason show; she also managed rental properties for Ralebach Rentals. She enjoyed reading, making flower arrangements and was a strong advocate in the Republican Party.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lenora Arnold. Bettye is survived by her loving husband, Alfred Chavez of Georgetown. She is also survived by her extended family, Marvin and Jean McCabe, Steve and Cathy McCabe, Jerry and Cindy McCabe and David and Denise Coar. She was also very proud and fond of Kristen Schaffer, Courtney, Lindsay and Shanna McCabe.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher Street in Frankford, where friends may call after 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
