Amelia L. “Millie” Leongis, 91, of Lewes, formerly of Delaware County, Pa., passed away peacefully at her home in the arms of her daughter and surrounded by her friends Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013.

Born July 31, 1921, Amelia was the daughter of the late Domenick and Catherine Colodonato DiOrio. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, James R. Leongis in 1992; sisters, Mary L. DiAntonio in 1989, Maria Nicola DiSanto in 1987, Jeannette Catren in 1996, Dolores Shellem and Elizabeth DiOrio in 1991; and brothers, Raymond DiOrio, in 1990, and Michael DiOrio in 1983.

In addition to being a homemaker, Amelia worked for many decades at the Yorkshire Worsted Mills in Lenni, Pa. as a mender. She retired in 1983 from Norcross Cards Inc. in West Chester, Pa.

She loved sitting in her kitchen, saying her daily prayers, gardening, watching the morning shows, Dr. Oz, Italian songs, casino trips, Dairy Queen and the beach. But her primary purpose in life was to just be with her family, to which she was devoted.

Amelia will be very sadly missed by her faithful and devoted family, which includes her daughter, Mary Ann L. Truitt of Lewes; sister Florence Moulter; brother-in-law Howard Shellem; and numerous nieces and nephews by whom she was affectionately known as “Aunt Mea;” along with extended family and friends.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Mary, Ruthy and Dolores for their devoted care and service during the past five years.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 29, at St. Francis de Sales Parish, 35 New Road, Lenni, where family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. A visitation will also be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Jan. 28, at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown. Interment will be in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery.

In addition, a memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, at St. Jude Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Compassionate Care Hospice, 28467 DuPont Blvd., Suite 6, Millsboro, DE 19966.
