Briggs King to hold meet and greets
Rep. Ruth Briggs King, R-Georgetown, announced a schedule of meet-and-greet sessions with constituents in Representative District 37, which includes Georgetown and the Long Neck area.
The schedule is as follows:
• 8 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Georgetown Family Restaurant at 115 East Market St. in Georgetown
• 7 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Ocean Grill Diner in the Shoppes at Long Neck
• 8 a.m., Wednesday, March 13, at Georgetown Family Restaurant
• 6 p.m., Wednesday, March 20, at the Long Neck CHEER Center in the Shoppes at Long Neck.
Briggs King will treat constituents who attend these events to coffee or tea.
Rehoboth approves reassessment bid
The Rehoboth Beach commissioners unanimously approved a bid to conduct the first citywide property reassessment in 45 years.
The commissioners selected Rehoboth-based firm PTA/DelVal to conduct the reassessment after the company submitted a $132,000 bid. PTA/DelVal has previously worked with the city on commercial assessments.
Rehoboth has not reassessed citywide since 1968.
Rehoboth approves garden MOU
The Rehoboth Beach commissioners, by a 6-1 vote, approved a memorandum of understanding with Rehoboth Beach Sister Cities Association to build a garden in the park off Lake Gerar on Olive Avenue, referred to as Cranberry Park.
The memorandum outlines the responsibilities for construction and maintenance of the Garden of the Navigators, which the association is building at its expense and donating to the city. The garden is a reciprocation to sister city Greve in Chianti, Italy, which unveiled a garden honoring Rehoboth last year.
Greve native explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano provides the link between the cities; Verrazzano mapped the Delaware coast during his 1524 voyage to North America.
Ray Zebrowski of RPZ Designs, who will serve as the project manager, designed the garden.
All plans for the garden must be approved by the city. Maintenance of the park will be handled by the city.
The project is being funded using grants and private donations, and has been estimated to cost around $40,000, although there is no official price at this time. Commissioner Bill Sargent was the only vote against the garden, saying he could not support the project without all the funds in the bank.
Infrastructure committee to discuss Bayard Avenue
Dewey Beach Infrastructure Committee will meet at 4 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25, at Dewey Beach Life Saving Station on Dagsworthy Avenue.
The committee is scheduled to discuss the pump station at Bayard Avenue and possibly vote to modify the station infrastructure. Cotten Engineering is scheduled to give an update on the town’s comprehensive stormwater plan.
The committee is also scheduled to discuss the impact of construction at Ruddertowne on the stormwater master plan. For a complete agenda, go to townofdeweybeach.com.
Sussex committee on aging to meet
The Sussex County Advisory Committee for the Aging & Adults with Physical Disabilities will hold its first meeting of 2013 Monday, Jan. 28, and will feature a presentation from members of the Greater Lewes Community Village about the organization and its mission to connect seniors living, working and recreating in Sussex County.
The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. at the County Administrative Offices West Complex, 22215 N. DuPont Blvd., in Georgetown.
Marty D’Erasmo, Carol Wzoreck and Barbara Vaughan will be providing a presentation on the growing Greater Lewes Community Village.
The Greater Lewes Community Village is a nonprofit organization for residents 50 and older living in the Lewes area to help provide them with services, expertise, social interaction and practical means so they may live on their own freely and without harm.

Rehoboth Planning Commission meeting cancelled
The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission has cancelled its Friday, Feb. 8 meeting due to lack of a quorum.
The commission’s next scheduled meeting is Friday, March 8.
