Gladys T. Powers, retired telephone operator

Gladys T. Powers, 93, of Millsboro, formerly of Philadelphia, Pa., passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Virtua Rehab at Mount Holly, N.J.

Gladys was born in Worthington, Ind., Sept. 14, 1919, daughter of the late Nova E. and Elizabeth (Moran) Mast. Gladys retired as a long distance telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company and also worked as a telephone operator for the Philadelphia Art Museum.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband William H. Powers in 2001; a sister, Dorothy Maloney; her triplet great-grandchildren, Catherine, Meghan and Ryan Powers and another great-granddaughter, Presley Shalala. She is survived by two sons, William H. (Anne) Powers Jr. of Aston Township, Pa. and James W. Powers of Millsboro; three daughters, Elizabeth Zurman of Millsboro, Margaret (Philip) Shalala of Stamford, Conn. and Maribeth (Joseph) Smith of Browns Mills, N.J.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 8 to 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 4, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Monday at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, 30839 Mt. Joy Road, Millsboro. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Gladys’ name to Catholic Charities, PO Box 2610, Wilmington, DE 19804.
