Calvin Lester Bivens, master carpenter

Calvin Lester Bivens, 59, of Frankford, departed this life Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.

He was born Feb. 4, 1953, the youngest son of the late Emerson L. Bivens and Martha S. Dickerson Bivens. He is also preceded in death by three brothers, Elzey, Mervin and Edward Bivens.

He attended Lord Baltimore School and the Indian River High School. He also attended Sussex Technical School and received training as a carpenter. He worked with various contractors, including Iacchetta Builders for 13 years and then Mountaire Poultry for two years.

Calvin was the love of Rachel’s life. He was a man of few words but much wisdom. Anyone who knew him would know that his world revolved around family. Oftentimes you would catch him working with his hands. He was a master carpenter. Calvin Bivens was the original family guy.

Calvin is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rachel A. Bivens of Frankford; three sons, Duane Brown (Ann), Jamaal Bivens (Mamie) and Lester Bivens (Tee); a brother, Denver Bivens (Reva); a sister, Deanna S. Bratton; seven grandchildren, Diamond, Elizabeth, Jadaya, Dalisha, Shamika, Juan and Devin; and a goddaughter, Nicole Tyre. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 2, at Calvary Pentecostal Church, 31125 N. Worcester Hwy., Bishopville, Md., where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Zoar Golden Acres Cemetery. Apostle Larry Morris will officiate the service.
