Local churches plan services as Easter approaches

St. Edmond to hold services for Easter season

St. Edmond Catholic Church will hold Holy Thursday Mass at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 28. Good Friday service will be at 7 p.m., Friday, March 29. The Holy Saturday Blessing of Food will take place at 10:15 a.m., Saturday, March 30, and the Easter Vigil will begin at 8 p.m. that evening.

Easter Sunday Masses will be held at 7:30, 9 and 10:30 a.m., Sunday, March 31, in the church, and at 7:45, 9:15 and 10:45 a.m. in the parish hall. Masses will also be held at 9 and 10:30 a.m., at Rehoboth Elementary School.

St. Peter's announces schedule of Easter services

St. Peter's Episcopal Church on Second Street in Lewes will hold its Maundy Thursday Holy Eucharist service with choir at 7 p.m., March 28, followed by the garden vigil from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., Friday, March 29, when there will be an early Good Friday service, with another service scheduled for noon. At 10 a.m., there will be a walking Stations of the Cross around Lewes, and a living Stations of the Cross will be presented at 7 p.m.

A Great Vigil with choir will begin at 7 p.m., Holy Saturday, March 30. There will be an 8 a.m. service Easter Sunday, March 31, and two 10 a.m. services with choir and music group. For more information, call 302-645-8479 or go to www.stpeterslewes.org.

Groome UMC announces services and events March 27-31

Groome Church will be open for prayer from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, March 27.  A soup and sandwich supper will be served from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Bible study, The Jesus I Never Knew, will continue from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Groome, Faith and Israel United Methodist churches will hold a combined service at 7 p.m., Holy Thursday, March 28, at Groome. The speaker will be the Rev. Jerome Tilghman, pastor of Faith and Israel churches.

Groome will join other Lewes churches in a Cross Walk through Lewes Good Friday, March 29, beginning at Bethel United Methodist Church on Fourth Street at 10 a.m. Youth will take turns carrying a wooden cross as participants read scripture and pray at various historic locations throughout Lewes. Groome Church will be open to the public for prayer from noon to 3 p.m., Good Friday.

The churches of Lewes will conduct a Sunrise Service at 6:30 a.m., Easter Sunday, March 31, at Lewes Beach. Groome’s regular worship services will be at 9 and 10:30 a.m., when the congregation will celebrate Holy Communion. Also, the DowelMotions will perform. This group is made up of youth from Groome who perform with music and pantomime to deliver a special and meaningful message. Groome invites the public to all these services and events. Groome United Methodist Church is at the corner of Savannah Road and Dewey Avenue in Lewes.

Israel UMC posts services March 31

Israel United Methodist Church, 20230 Plantation Road, Lewes, will host a joint morning worship Easter service at 11 a.m., Sunday, March 31.  At 3:30 p.m., the Throwback Choir, former youth members of UM Youth Fellowship, will hold an Easter program. The theme is Jesus is the Answer.

Long Neck UMC to hold Easter week services starting March 28

Long Neck United Methodist Church will hold a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m., March 28.  Easter sunrise service will begin at 6:30 a.m. at Massey’s Landing (look for signs), and Easter services will take place at 8:45 and 11 a.m., Sunday, March 31.

Holy Spirit Anglican Church posts services March 24-31

Holy Spirit Anglican Church will hold a Maundy Thursday service at 6:30 p.m., March 28, and Good Friday Meditations on the Last Word service at 6:30 p.m., March 29.  One Easter service will take place at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, March 31; no 7 p.m. service.  The Holy Spirit Anglican Church is a new church and comes together for worship at The Grange, 1528 Savannah Road, Lewes.  Direct questions to Susan Tolbert at 302-947-2269.

Westminster Presbyterian Church posts schedule March 28-31

Westminster Presbyterian Church will hold a Maundy Thursday Soup Supper & Communion Service starting at 6 p.m., March 28.  Good Friday Worship occurs from 1 to 2 p.m., March 29.  Easter Worship will take place at 8:30 and 10 a.m. and Children's Church School at 10 a.m., Sunday, March 31. Episcopal Parish of All Saints’ & St. George’s posts March 29-31 services

The Episcopal Parish of All Saints’ Church & St. George’s Chapel invites everyone to participate in services leading into Easter. On Good Friday, March 29, the parish offers a noontime service of solemn prayer, hymns and meditation on The Passion as written in the Gospel of John, at All Saints’ Church and simultaneously at St. George’s Chapel. Presented at All Saints’ Church at 7 p.m. will be the oratorio “The Crucifixion.” The Parish Choir will be joined by guest soloists.

At 8 p.m., Holy Saturday, March 30, at All Saints’ Church, all are invited to The Great Vigil of Easter. The service begins in a darkened church and continues with the Lighting of the Paschal Candle, an extensive reading of Holy Scripture retelling salvation history, Holy Baptism and Holy Communion, culminating in the celebration of the Resurrection.

On Easter Day, Sunday, March 31, services will be held at All Saints’ at 7:30, 9 and 11 a.m. and St. George’s at 8 and 9:30 a.m. An Easter Brass Ensemble will greet worshipers on Easter morning between the two services at St. George’s Chapel and between the 9 a. m. and 11 a.m. services at All Saints’ Church.

An egg hunt for children in the Rector’s Wife’s Garden will follow the 9 and 11 a.m. services at All Saints’  and at St. George’s, an egg hunt will be held in the churchyard following the 9:30 a.m. service. All Saints’ Church is at 18 Olive Ave. in Rehoboth Beach, and St. George’s Chapel is at 20274 Beaver Dam Road (Route 23) outside Harbeson in the Angola area.The parish invites all of God’s people to receive Holy Communion. St. Jude the Apostle posts Easter services

St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church will hold its Mass of the Lord's Supper at 7 p.m., Holy Thursday, March 28. On Good Friday, March 29, the Service of the Lord's Passion will begin at 3 p.m. There are no confessions or 4:30 p.m. Mass Saturday, March 30. The Easter Vigil Mass will begin at 7:30 p.m. that evening. Easter Sunday Masses will take place at 7, 8:30, 10 and 11:30 a.m., March 31. Episcopal Church of Saint John the Baptist announces Easter Week services

The Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist will hold a Soup and Salad Supper at 6 p.m., Holy Thursday, March 28, followed by a 7 p.m. Tenebrae Service. Good Friday Eucharistic Services will occur at noon and 6 p.m., March 29. Easter Eucharistic Services will occur after sunrise at 7 a.m., and the Easter Sunday Service follows at 10 a.m.  Call the church at 302-684-8431 or Clerk of the Parish Jane Duffied 302-684-5520 for information. New Life Bible Fellowship Church posts services March 29-31

New Life Bible Fellowship Church, 24771 Cannon Road, Long Neck, will hold Good Friday Service at 7 p.m., April 29.  An Easter egg hunt is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, rain or shine.  Easter Worship till take place at 10 a.m., Sunday, March 31.  For more information call 302-945-8145.

Ministerium to hold March 31 Easter Sunrise Service in Bethany

The Southeast Sussex Ministerium will hold an Easter Sunrise Service at 6 a.m., Sunday, March 31, at the bandstand in Bethany Beach. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held in the sanctuary of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Garfield Parkway (Route 26), Bethany Beach.

St. George’s United Methodist Church, Clarksville, is scheduled to provide the preacher, the Rev. Randy Smith. Other churches in the ministerium will provide logistical support, prayer leaders and scripture readers. The service will commence with the sounding of the shofar - a ram’s horn used to summon the Israelites to assembly - by Brett Buschler. Music will be provided by The Father’s House, Frankford.

All special offerings taken at the worship service will be given to the Pyle Emergency Center to assist members of the community in need.

LCOS announces services for Easter

The Lutheran Church of Our Savior will hold a 7 p.m. Communion service for Maundy Thursday, March 28. Good Friday, March 29, will include a 3 p.m. devotional service and a 7 p.m. Tenebrae service.
