Artists to submit entries by March 8 for VIA Seaside Art Show May 18

February 14, 2013

Artists are signing up for the Seaside Art Show, the first of what will now be an every-other-year event, to be held Saturday, May 18, at the Village Improvement Association clubhouse off the boardwalk at Grenoble Place in Rehoboth Beach.  Artists must submit their entries by Friday, March 8.

“Our 103-year history shows that even before there was a Rehoboth Art League, the VIA was holding art exhibits,” said art show cochair Sherry Hall. “Ethel Leach, an early VIA leader and artist, did the first VIA art show with her paintings in 1929.” Leach later involved well-known artists such as Howard Schroeder and Jack Lewis, and other artists who were later instrumental in the creation of the RAL.

“We have just updated our VIA clubhouse,” Hall said. “It’s been a $275,000 project, and we have $48,000 left to raise. The art show will help us in fundraising, and has been in our plans since we started the drive in 2010. Future Seaside Art Shows and other volunteer work will help us fund area charities, which has been our mission since the beginning.”

The event starts at 9 a.m. and, besides the art show inside the clubhouse, will feature artists and a clothesline art exhibit outside on the grounds. “We’ll also have a mini RAL exhibit of art from former RAL/VIA members such as Ethel Leach, door prizes, a silent auction and a quilt raffle” said Hall. Light lunch can be purchased. There is a $5 charitable donation cost.

At about 5 p.m. there will be a wine and cheese reception and a live auction. Festivities will end at approximately 7 p.m.

Artists’ work for this show will be juried. Those wishing to be a part of the event can go to www.RehobothBeachVIA.org at Events. For an entry letter, contact Sherry Hall at 302-644-2264 or Barbara Lett, cochair, at 240-409-8800.
