1000 Triathletes to Jump-off Cape May-Lewes Ferry - Inaugural Escape the Cape Triathlon & Aquabike to make triathlon history on June 2, 2013
(Lower Township, NJ) Today, DelMoSports, Lower Township and the Delaware River and Bay Authority announced that a historic sporting event, The Inaugural Escape the Cape Triathlon & Aquabike, will take place along the Jersey Shore on June 2, 2013. The Delaware River and Bay Authority’s Cape May-Lewes Ferry Terminal in Lower Township, NJ will host 1000 triathletes, their families and friends for this momentous endurance event. In an exciting twist, the event will start aboard a Cape May – Lewes Ferry vessel in the Delaware Bay.

Gehrke credited the Ferry’s marketing manager, Mike Porch, and Lower Township officials for making the event a reality. “We are happy to have a good working relationship with Lower Township that will bring more events to the local community,” said Porch.

Athletes will board the ferry and journey out into the Delaware Bay where they will jump off into the waters to begin the race. The event will consist of three separate races taking place simultaneously. The Sprint Triathlon consists of a .35 mile swim, 10 mile bike, and 5k run. The International Triathlon will consist of a 1 mile swim, 20 mile bike, and 5 mile run, and the International Aquabike consisting of a 1 mile swim and 20 mile bike only.
