Clair Eidemiller, American Legion member

Clair K. Eidemiller, 86, of Long Neck, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Neffsville, Pa., Dec. 30, 1926, son of the late Clair W. and Ella Kopp Eidemiller. Clair was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Merchant Marines. He worked for Binkley and Ober Block Plant in East Petersburg, Pa. for 42 years and owned and operated Double D CB Shop in East Petersburg. He retired to Long Neck in 1989.

He was a member of American Legion Post 28 of Oak Orchard, where he worked as a volunteer at bingo and casino nights. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Florence A. Eidemiller; and his son-in-law, John Cassidy. He is survived by five children, Glenda L. Carper (Ronald) of Manheim, Pa., David C. Gehman (Loretta) of Altoona, Pa., Jerry K. Eidemiller (Diane) of East Petersburg, Darlene J. Cassidy of Mountville, Pa. and Timothy R. Eidemiller (Deb) of Landisville, Pa.; a brother, Jay R. Eidemiller (Betty) of Mount Joy, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 17, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road in Long Neck, where friends may call after noon. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Clair’s memory to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
