Lowell H. Casto, guidance counselor

Lowell H. Casto, 77, of Lewes, formerly of Newark, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at his residence. He was born in Nitro, W.Va.,  Nov. 27, 1935, son of the late Willard and Virginia (Hood) Casto.

Mr. Casto graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School, Charleston, W.Va., in 1954, and continued his  higher education starting with West Virginia University, graduating with his bachelors degree in psychology, then Marshall University, Huntington, W.Va., graduating with his masters, and lastly his plus-60 at the University of Delaware. He spent a lifelong career with the Appoquinimink School District in Southern New Castle, as a guidance counselor, influencing countless children to achieve their dreams.

Mr. Casto was a member of the Ogletown Baptist Church, Newark, and several financial clubs in Newark. He enjoyed traveling and always looked forwards to his winters in Florida. Most of all, Mr. Casto’s love for his family was quite evident; he never missed a chance to let you know how proud he was of his family. Mr. Casto was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Casto is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Nancy Dean Casto; his son, Charles L. Casto and his wife Heather of Wilmington; his daughter, Nanette D. Schultz and her husband Timothy of Louisville, Ky.; his granddaughter, Emily Dracon; and his grandson, Nicholas Dracon.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Casto’s name to the National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
