The following letter was sent to Mike Vincent, president, Sussex County Council, with a copy submitted to the Cape Gazette for publication.
My name is Denny Quillen. My wife, Judy, and I owned and operated 3 Seasons RV Resort in Rehoboth Beach from 1978 to 2006. When my parents brought before the Sussex County Council the concept of creating an RV resort/campground, that concept was immediately challenged with extreme opposition. Our dream was to create a first-class resort for families to enjoy and share the many recreational opportunities that Sussex County has to offer.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, our request was to establish 3 Seasons RV Resort immediately adjacent to the prestigious residential community Rehoboth Beach Yacht and Country Club. My family was as “home grown” Rehoboth Beach, Sussex County, Delaware as they come. They would not dream of damaging our community.
Was it possible for an RV resort to co-exist in a positive fashion in Rehoboth Beach? Somehow, and thank goodness, my parents persevered and “stayed their course” and 3 Seasons RV Resort became a reality and an asset to Rehoboth Beach and Sussex County.
Once again, responsible and professional “home grown” natives are coming before you requesting approval to create a “first class” RV resort in this county. When we closed 3 Seasons in 2006, a significant void was created for the many vacationing families who chose Sussex County as their annual vacation destination. This void still exists.
The county provides and enforces planning and construction guidelines to protect the values that we all hold dear. This new RV resort, as proposed, will not be a year-round business. With responsible planning and development, and professional management, this proposed RV resort will become another asset and attraction to our community, creating seasonal employment and a substantial increase in the revenue to local businesses.
Therefore, we encourage the council members to approve the Love Creek RV Resort.
