Rehoboth Sister Cities kicks off fundraising for garden

February 27, 2013

Rehoboth Beach Sister Cities Association launched a fundraising campaign as it races the clock to finish the “Garden of the Navigators” before a delegation from sister city Greve in Chianti, Italy, arrive Friday, June 21.

The garden is expected to cost $66,000, Commissioner Pat Coluzzi said. The association has already received an $18,000 grant from the Delaware Commission on Italian Heritage and Culture, but needs to raise all the money before it can begin building.

To that end, the association held a fundraiser at the home of Henry and Marcia DeWitt, a board member of the sister cities association, in Henlopen Acres.

Part of the event was a presentation from designer Ray Zebrowski, who designed a garden in Greve that pays tribute to Rehoboth. Zebrowski said the Garden of the Navigators is a nice mix of formal and informal design and that he hopes the garden will become a destination for visitors and residents.
