February 26, 2013

The Delaware Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has named Glenn Pfeil, chief financial officer of 21st Century Insurance, as corporate chair of its 2013 Light the Night Walk, the LLS annual fundraising event held each fall to raise money for cancer research and patient services.

LLS holds walks during September and October in approximately 185 communities across the United States and Canada. Last year alone, the campaign raised more than $50 million in walk revenue across the country - nearly $290,000 in Delaware. Participants at the walks carry illuminated balloons - white for survivors, red for supporters and gold to remember those who have died - to honor and commemorate lives touched by blood cancer. In Delaware, two walks will take place this fall in Rehoboth Beach and Wilmington.

“Forming a Light the Night Walk team is a great way to build team spirit among employees,” said Pfeil. “I am honored to serve as the chair and look forward to encouraging local businesses and corporations to get their employees involved.” Pfeil will be hosting a corporate breakfast event at Hotel DuPont from 8:30 to 10 a.m., Thursday, April 18, in hopes of recruiting and securing additional local support for this year’s 2013 campaign.

The fundraising team at 21st Century set a new local record last year, raising upwards of $30,000 for its Wilmington Walk involvement with internal fundraising events and drives. Funds raised through corporate and individual contributions help to find cures and better therapies for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkins disease and myeloma, and to provide information, education and support for patients and their families.

“Light the Night Walk gives hope to patients and their families, and lets them know they are not alone in their battle against cancer,” said Rose Bevilacqua, Delaware’s LLS market director.
