Dottie W. Aiken, champion surfcaster

Dottie W. Aiken, 73, of Georgetown, passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at home. Dottie was born in Franklin, W.Va., Jan. 12, 1940.

Dottie was an administrative assistant for the Delaware Seashore State Park for 22 years, retiring in 1997.

She was a member of the Grace Church in Milton. She worked with her sister, volunteering with the Sussex Chapter of MADD for several years. She enjoyed quilting, painting, surf and flounder fishing. She won a surfcasting championship in 1966.

She is preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Alan and Mabel (Webb) Wharton; brothers, Lester, Gary, Will, Jimmy, and George Smith; and sister, Marsha Smith.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Harry W. Aiken Sr.; sons, Harry W. (Buddy) Aiken Jr. and Scott M. Aiken Sr., both of Georgetown; six grandchildren, Amanda Redden, John Aiken, Samantha Aiken, Scott Aiken Jr., Jessica Aiken and Tyler Aiken; one great-grandchild, Cyler Aiken; one sister, Dolly Banks of Georgetown; and one brother, John Smith of Laurel.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 22, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Casual attire requested. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
