Oyster Eat, Shrimp Feast set for Feb. 22

Sussex County’s tradition­ally all-male Oyster Eat and all-female Shrimp Feast are set to take place Feb. 22. The 76th annual Georgetown Oyster Eat will run from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Georgetown Fire Hall. Tickets are $27 in advance and $30 at the door. A Beretta 686 Oynx over and under 28-gauge shotgun will be raffled off at the event. Folks may buy three raffle tickets for $10 or one for $5. This year’s auction item will be an Oyster Eat knife, handcrafted by Neal Greene. It will be auctioned off at 10 p.m. For more informa­tion, call 302-856-7700.

The 27th annual Lewes Shrimp Feast will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Lewes Fire De­partment Station 2, just off Route 1 near the Nassau Bridge. Tickets are available at Station 1. Only 400 tickets are sold for the event, which is usually a sellout. There will be multiple drawings for $25 cash prizes. For more informa­tion, call 302-645-6556.

Lewes BPW cancels February meeting

Lewes Board of Public Works has canceled its regular monthly meeting scheduled for 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, at City Hall. The panel would have lacked a quorum.

The board’s next regular monthly meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 20, at City Hall. The March meet­ing is being held a week earlier than normally scheduled to ac­commodate administrative staff plans.

Airport restaurant report on agenda

Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the county administra­tion building on The Circle in Georgetown. Agenda items include a report on county air­port restaurant bid results and a hearing on a zoning change for a mini-storage project in Har­beson. No quorum; Sussex hearing rescheduled

Because of the lack of a quo­rum at the Feb. 5 Sussex County Council meeting, a public hear­ing has been rescheduled. The hearing for an application filed by Central Storage at Harbeson LLC requesting a zoning change from AR-1, agricultural-residential, to CR-1, commercial-residential, for an 8-acre parcel for storage units in Harbeson has been re­scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the county administra­tion building on The Circle in Georgetown.

Dewey committee to discuss gross receipts

Dewey Beach Budget and Finance Committee will meet at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, at Dewey Beach Life Saving Station on Dagsworthy Avenue. The committee will discuss public comments it received on a pro­posed gross receipts tax on retail businesses located within town limits. The committee is also scheduled to decide whether to recommend the proposal to town council.
