The campaign trail to become Milton's next mayor will reach its conclusion Saturday, March 2, when residents will cast their votes for current Mayor Cliff Newlands or his challenger, Councilwoman Marion Jones.

Polls will be open at town hall from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and results will be announced shortly after polls close. Newlands is seeking a second three-year term as mayor. He was elected in 2010, winning 67 percent of the vote to defeat former Mayor Don Post by an overwhelming margin. Newlands, 61, is a retired software engineer. He spent 20 of his 37 years in the industry as director and vice president of a software company.

During his reelection campaign, Newlands has touted his achievements, including cleaning up of Milton's finances, and vowed to bolster downtown business in hopes of drawing more visitors and residents to town.

Along with Councilman Emory West, Jones defeated incumbent Ronda Abraham in the 2011 election. Jones received the most votes in that election. Jones, 58, works as the administrative assistant to Chief Keith Banks at the Rehoboth Beach Police Department, where she has been employed since 1993.

Jones said she chose to run for mayor because her voice and many residents' voices are not being heard. If elected, she has vowed to listen to and encourage townspeople's ideas. She also wants to institute more accountability in the mayor's office.

Town hall is located at 115 Federal St. For more information, call town hall at 302-684-4110.
