County, developers reach agreement on sewer work

March 23, 2013

It took several years, but Sussex County officials have reached an agreement with the developers of several communities along Gills Neck Road to compensate them for oversizing the developments' sewer infrastructure. The developers, J.G. Townsend Jr. & Co. and Hawkseye LLC, were required to overbuild sewer lines hooking into the county system to provide for future growth in the area. Developers should have received money from the county to cover the additional costs.

In an agreement approved Feb. 26, the developers will receive $850,000 in connection fee credits for future hook-ups to the county's central sewer system. Overall, the county owed the developers $1.2 million with $350,000 already paid in cash or credits. Work is under way on Senators, the newest housing project, on Gills Neck Road.
