Etta Mae Long Hickman, beloved mother

Etta Mae Hickman (nee Long), went to be with our Lord at the age of 95 Saturday, March 2, 2013. She was born in Milton, July 2, 1917, daughter of the late Lulu and Oliver Long.  She devoted her life to her family, friends and others.

Etta was the best mother and grandmother in the world.  She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking and her African violets.  She spent many happy hours with her family and grandchildren playing cards.

Etta was preceded in death by her husband John A. Hickman; a grandson, James F. Hudson Jr.; her brother Alton Long; and three sisters, Dorothy, Mamie and Hilda.  She will be dearly missed by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Tressia Hickman; her daughter and son-in-law, Olivia and Jim Hudson; her grandchildren, Denise and Michael Budd, Debbie and Bill Robertson, Cheryl and Rodney Reynolds, Cynthia and Peter McMahon, J.J. and Karyn Hudson; her great-grandchildren, Jared and Mary Budd, Maggie, Job and Jonah Robertson, Macy Reynolds, Riley, Brody and Erichson McMahon, Emma, Sarah and Connor Hudson and Corey Galbreath who was like a granddaughter to her.  She will also be dearly missed by two sisters, Dulcie Scott of Pennsville, N.J. and Olive DeFino of Berea, Ohio.

The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice for their kindness and compassion during this difficult time.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may call after noon.  Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Milton.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Etta’s name to Moose Charities, 155 S. International Dr., Mooseheart, IL 60539-1100.
