Second-graders learn about Lewes government

Mayor Jim Ford presents flag to Richard Shields school
March 26, 2013

Lewes Mayor Jim Ford presents Richard Shields Elementary School with a Lewes flag after speaking with second-graders about city government. Second-graders read the book “Out and About at City Hall” and wanted to learn more about how the City of Lewes operates.

Students were surprised to discover that being mayor is not his full-time job. Ford, who has been involved with Lewes government for 22 years, said one of his greatest responsibilities as mayor is to help plan for the city's future.

Taking part in the flag presentation in the back row are (l-r) Jenny Nauman, principal, Tara Davis, second-grade teacher, and Mayor Ford. In the front row are (l-r) Tyler Belson, Jayden Drummond, Luke Burton, Trinesse Losiewski, Nataleigh Castango and James Webster.
