Cape tennis gets into swing during 2013 preseason

Teams open season March 22 versus Smyrna

The Cape Henlopen boys' and girls' tennis teams are braving the early springtime winds and rain to get prepared for the 2013 season.

The girls are looking to improve on their 7-8 season in 2012 with 39 players vying for the top seven spots on the courts. The Lady Vikings are led by returning players Baylie Fannin, Tyler Bailey, Tykia Duffy, Nikki Swider and Allie Kwan. Georgia transfer Brittney Harris looks to contribute to the success of the team. The team is coached by Carl Pearson and assisted by Bob Edgerton and Bob Wallace.

The Cape boys hit the courts under coach Maryanne Cardillo in her ninth season at the helm with John Myers assisting. The boys, who finished the 2012 season at 7-8, are looking to returning players Amit Nainani, Ryan Thornburg, Evan Plivelich, Danny Myers, Taso Kotanides, Brian Bahtiarian and Andrew Hynes. Sophomore Evan Lesko came from baseball and will add depth to the to Vikings squad.

Both teams open their regular season Friday, March 22, with the Eagles of Smyrna.
