Transportation officials are on the way to assess damage to roadways that provide access to residents of Primehook Beach and Broadkill Beach.

Secretary of Transportation Shailen Bhatt said both Prime Hook Road and Broadkill Road are closed because of flooding.

Residents of those communities are urged to stay put; no one in either community can safely leave their communities by road because of flooding.

Indian River Inlet bridge remains closed, closing Route 1 from Dewey Beach to Bethany. DelDOT officials said they hope to have southbound lanes open by 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. today if water still on the road recedes.

The northbound lanes on Route 1 are not expected to open until late Thursday or possibly Friday.
