Cloud 9 restaurant to be demolished April 11

March 28, 2013

After sitting vacant for the better part of a year, Cloud 9 restaurant in Rehoboth Beach will be demolished.

Contractor John Macklin and Son of Lincoln will remove the building at 234 Rehoboth Ave. as early as Thursday, April 11.

In November, Cloud 9 was sold to 234 Rehoboth Ave. LLC for $1.1 million. The listed contact for the LLC with the city is James J. Matthews of Arlington, Va. Matthews could not be reached for comment.

Building inspector Terri Sullivan said in preliminary discussions with Matthews several months ago, the indication was that another restaurant will be built on the site, but no plans have been submitted. She said the building must be demolished before a building permit can be issued, and 234 Rehoboth Ave. LLC is still working on plans.

Originally Philadelphia Mike’s, Cloud 9 was established in 1995. The restaurant closed abruptly last year before being sold.
