The National Kidney Foundation of Maryland will hold its fifth annual Southern Delaware Kidney Walk Sunday, April 14, at Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes.
“This is a gorgeous Kidney Walk location right on the beach, just in time for all of us with spring fever to get out and enjoy the sunshine while supporting a great cause that impacts so many in our community,” said Lydia Foxwell, NKF-MD’s director of field services for the Eastern Shore and a living kidney donor.
Approximately 500 people are expected to participate in this fun, inspiring community fundraiser, which calls attention to the prevention of kidney disease and the need for organ donation.
Chaired by Kristy Ferracci, an FMC dialysis technician who donated a kidney to her husband, the event provides an opportunity for patients, family, friends and businesses to come together to support the millions of Americans with chronic kidney disease.
Check-in and festivities begin at 9 a.m. at the Picnic Pavilion. The dog-friendly walk will kick off at 10 a.m. Participants can choose from a 3.2-mile trail or a shorter trail for strollers and wheelchairs.
Adding to the fun, everyone can enjoy refreshments from Surf Bagel and Pepsi, music from Moonbeam Entertainment, the Kidney Kids Corner with face painting and games, and the Kidney Paws for a Cause booth with activities for dogs including the Best-Dressed Dog contest.
There is no registration fee, but Cape Henlopen State Park charges an entrance fee to of $4 per vehicle registered in Delaware and $8 for vehicles registered outside Delaware.
All Kidney Walk participants who raise a minimum of $100 will earn a 2013 Kidney Walk T-shirt.
