Console wars are garbage

One would think that all gamers would get along well because they share that common interest. And, for the most part, they do. But there is always that one guy. You know, “that guy.” The guy that only likes one console and hates everyone who owns a console other than the one he swoons over.

I will admit—I used to be “that guy,” or “that girl,” I guess. I used to think that the PlayStation 3 was the only console anyone should own and that those who chose to game on the Xbox 360 were idiots. Thankfully, I don’t feel that way anymore. Let’s face it: I was an ass.

There is nothing wrong with having a preferred console, though. The PlayStation 3 is my preferred console, but I love them all!

We are gamers because we love games. The systems we play them on are irrelevant—the games are what matter the most.

When we think about our favorite games from our childhoods, do we think about the consoles we played them on, or the games themselves? The games, of course! No one argues about which console they played San Andreas on. They talk about the good times they had playing the game. Games are there to make us happy, and to bring quality entertainment into our lives.

In my opinion, if you want to get the most out of gaming, you should play on all consoles, including a PC. However, I realize that this is unrealistic and most people don’t have the money for that. If you have a thin wallet, go with the console that has the most games that you would like to play.

I chose the PlayStation 3 because I was attracted to Heavy Rain; that game was the main reason I bought a PS3. Others will choose to buy a 360 to play Gears of War, Halo, Forza, and more. Don’t listen to what anyone else says—buy the console that you are attracted to the most. Buy the console that has the most games that you think you will enjoy.

If you have the funds, get them all! That way, you’ll never miss out on any great games.

I wish console wars would just end, but they never will. There will always be people who try to ruin your day by putting down the console you choose to play games on.

What experiences have you had with console wars? Have you gotten into fights in GameStop because of what side of the store you were buying your game from? Tell me about your console wars experiences by emailing me at cassie@capegazette.com. Game on (on whatever system or systems you want to!)
