Mahlon Clark Baker, active firefighter

Mahlon Clark Baker, 71, of Bridgeville, passed away peacefully Monday, March 25, 2013, at his home.  He was born in Milford, Jan. 18, 1942, son of the late Samuel Clark Baker and Arnette Frances O'Neal Baker.

Mr. Baker had retired as a superintendent with Temco Inc. in Salisbury, Md., after 28 years of service.  He also did agricultural farming from 1967 to 1985.  In 1969 he joined the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department and held the post of acting deputy chief from 1993-2012.  Mr. Baker enjoyed fishing, hunting and NASCAR.  He was a member of the Union United Methodist Church in Bridgeville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Victoria A. Hunziker (2011). He is survived by his wife, Alice Kathryn Townsend Baker, whom he married in 1988; two sons Martin C. Baker and companion Ellen Krone, and Michael C. Baker and companion Penny Waldridge,  both of Bridgeville; grandson Matthew C. Baker and wife Noel of  Laurel; great-grandson James Clark Baker; stepson Steven D. Tyre and companion Nancy Phillips of Bridgeville;  stepdaughter, Krystal J. McCoy and husband Keith of Bridgeville;  stepgranddaughter Dakota Shae Tyre of Dagsboro; stepgrandson Trevor A. Timmons of Bridgeville; two brothers-in-law, Bruce Hunziker of Bridgeville and William C. Townsend of Georgetown.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 28, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville. where  friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial will be private at St. Georges Cemetery, Clarksville.
