Cape rocks the Raiders of Ursuline 17-4

March 29, 2013

The Ursuline Raiders lacrosse team came to Cape March 26 sporting a record of 2-0 with wins over St. Thomas More and Red Lion by a combined score of 37-10 and returning all-state goalie Cecelia Cicone.

Cicone stuffed the first two Cape shots. The bad news for the Raiders - Cape was in her face and would stay there the entire first half, leading 11-1 at the end of the period.

The second half was running clock with Cape going “spread red” the last three minutes, not taking a shot.

“That goalie is really good, and we knew that," coach P.J. Kesmodel said after the game. “And Mary Abrams is a good athlete, but they just turned the ball over too much, and we took advantage of it. There is so much we haven’t worked on yet; hopefully over spring break we can install other facets of our game.”

Cape’s goals came from Anna Frederick 5, Sarah Tappan 3, Allie Yeager 2, and singles from Sara Young, Kat Judge, Jordan Brown, Lizzie Frederick, Lexi Woodruff, Karalyn Joseph and Riley Wagner.

Assists for Cape were Anna Frederick 2, Lexi Woodruff 2, and Jordan Brown and Allie Yeager one each.

Sam Broadhurst had 8 saves while Cicone had 10. Cape outshot the Raiders 32-15.

Cape will host Archmere Saturday, April 6.

Note: Ursuline coach Lauren Berg organized the breast cancer awareness game with both teams participating in pregame activities and everybody wearing pink.
