Bethany Beach Bunny Palooza Five and Dime attracts 735 runners

Pin your ears back and run with your peeps
April 2, 2013

Seven hundred and thirty-five cool cats lined up on Garfield Parkway and Atlantic Avenue March 30 for the second running of the Bethany Beach Bunny Palooza Five and Dime road race. The event raises money for the Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation.

Hundred of runners wore bunny ears and sported the colors of dyed Easter eggs. Purple, pink and raspberry were prevalent, along with egg yolk yellow.

The 10K started first with 270 runners, followed 20 minutes later by 465 in the 5K race.

The Seashore Striders handled race management while Piranha Sports provided the timing system. Both races ended on the boardwalk at a common finish line. Chip timing sorts it all out instantaneously if not sooner so runners can join their peeps for post-race celebrations.

Sean Najomy, 33, of Jacksonville, Fla., was the overall winner of the 10K with a time of 36:03.  Sean was followed across the finish line by Steven O’Boyle, 32, of Frankford in 36:27and Cape distance runner Austin MacElrevey, 17, in 36:47.

Danny MacElrevey, 44, was the first masters runner in 38:49.

Cindy Conant, 51, was the first overall woman in 39:12; Ashley Fought, 27, was second in 41:20 while Jessica Thompson, 17, was third in 42:27.

Greg Cauller, 53, of York, Pa., a high school calculus teacher, won the 5K race in 17:20. Greg’s girlfriend Lynn Knothe, 35, won the women’s race in 20:23. Madison MacElrevey, 15, was second for the women in 21:13, followed by Debbie Pelegrin, 46, who ran 21:41.
