Virginia L. Maloney, retired banker

Virginia L. Maloney passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. Virginia was the daughter to the late John L. and Grace V. Minner.

Mrs. Maloney graduated from Harrington High School in 1952. Right after her graduation, she went to work for Peoples Bank. For the next 45 years, she worked as a banker until she retired from Wilmington Trust. After her retirement, she enjoyed helping her son Bernie in his floral shop, making deliveries and helping with the bookkeeping. Mrs. Maloney enjoyed taking trips. She loved to go on outings with her family to Lancaster, amusement parks, and anywhere else they desired. She enjoyed going to the Harrington Senior Center and enjoyed visiting many places across the country through the trips they sponsored.

When she was younger, she enjoyed spending time at the beach with family. Mrs. Maloney embodied her old fashioned values and simplistic ways by spending quality time with her friends and family. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed. Mrs. Maloney was a lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Harrington, where she taught Sunday School for many years.

Virginia is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Bruce B. Maloney Sr. She is survived by her sons, Bruce "Bernie" Maloney Jr. of Harrington, Mark and Kathy A. Maloney of Harrington; grandchildren, Mark John and Megan Maloney; sisters, Doris Calhoun of Harrington and Barbara Sapp of Milton, and S. Louise Savage of Milford.

A service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 1, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 63 Commerce Street, Harrington. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 9:30 until 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trinity UMC-Raise the Roof Fund, 63 Commerce St., Harrington, DE 19952. Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home.
