A giant birthday party is about to unfold, and 40,000 guests are expected to attend the 80th Anniversary Dover Days Festival May 3-5. Participation deadlines are approaching fast. All registration forms can be found by visiting http://www.DoverDaysFestival.com, or by calling Kent County Tourism, 302-734-4888.

Deadlines vary according to type of event.

For the Colonial and Victorian Demonstrating Artisans category, participants should register by Wednesday, April 10, for Saturday, May 4. Participating artisans will be permitted to sell their handmade products as long as they demonstrate their craft or trade and dress in period costume.

Arts and crafts vendors, resellers, nonprofit organizations, commercial, home and trade, and food vendors’ registration deadline is Friday, April 19, if not sold out prior. Vendors may exhibit May 4 and 5, or elect to exhibit Saturday only.

For the Dover Day Parade and Kritter Sitter Pet Parade on May 4, applications must be submitted no later than Friday, April 19. Floats, marching bands, car clubs, youth groups and more are welcome to participate in the parade at no charge. Commercial entry fees are $25. There is no entry fee for the pet parade, and all participating pets will receive a ribbon.

Twenty-six trophies are up for grabs in the Fifth Annual Dover Days Winner Ford Hyundai Car show set for Sunday, May 5. Those who register by Friday, April 26, save $5 off the day-of registration fee of $15. The first 50 registered will receive a full-color commemorative dash plaque.

The Delaware Lottery Cornhole Tournament, set for Sunday, May 5, will hold preregistration through April 26 at $25 per team, and day-of registration is $30. Cash awards will be presented to the first-, second- and third-place winners.

“The Dover Days Festival is Kent County’s largest festival and one of Delaware’s longest-running events that celebrates First State history,” said Lorraine Dion, director of Special Events and Public Relations for Kent County Tourism, producers of the event.

The event is free admission, though some activities are ticketed. For the full schedule of events, go to www.DoverDaysFestival.com or call 302-734-4888.
