Representatives of the 11 galleries that comprise the Rehoboth Beach gallery collective known as Mosaic met March 8 to discuss the soon-to-be citywide and city-sponsored Second Saturdays and Local Tuesdays and to formulate their official voice of support.

While the Second Saturday Art Walks created by Mosaic have been a year-round part of downtown Rehoboth Beach for more than half a decade, this is the first time in the history of the art walks that the city of Rehoboth Beach has officially put its support behind the event. All businesses are encouraged to partake in the event.

“As gallery curators, we’ve found this night beneficial to our businesses and to our cause of connecting the arts with the community. Now that the city of Rehoboth is getting behind Second Saturday, we think the night will be an even bigger success by involving the entire community. We envision Second Saturday involving visual art, music, the culinary arts, theater and other artistic ventures. Every shop, gallery, restaurant and office could be involved in small or big ways,” said current Mosaic president and artist Heidi Lowe.

Chef and restaurateur Jay Caputo says he’s excited about Second Saturdays in Rehoboth. “I feel it is a great way for community-minded residents to experience the artistic side of our great town, as well as sample some of the cuisine that helps make this town so unique,” said Caputo. “Mosaic does a wonderful job promoting the galleries and arts, and we at CABO and Espuma are happy to be contributing to this community and are thrilled to help the event grow.”

“We’ve worked very diligently to make the Mosaic Second Saturday Art Walk a success. To witness the way that our events have organically evolved into what will now be a citywide event with city support is really quite affirming. This is definitely something fantastic for business owners, locals and tourists alike," Lowe said.

Another aspect of the city-sponsored events geared specifically toward locals is the creation of Local Tuesdays, which would piggyback the farmers market each week.  Business are encouraged to take part in the evening by creating small events or specials that will entice locals to come into town on the less-trafficked weeknight.

Second Saturday in Rehoboth will begin May 11 and continue year-round on the evening of the second Saturday of each month from 6 to 9 p.m.  Local Tuesdays will begin May 14 and continue weekly from 4 to 7 p.m. through October.
