The Pickled Pig Pub will be marking its fourth anniversary by featuring beers brewed and distributed in the state of Delaware. The annual First State Beer Week will be held Monday, April 8 through Sunday, April 14 at The Pub’s Harbor Square location at 18756 Route One.

Pub manager and beer director Ben Cowell has put together the seven-day program to highlight to the quality craft beers being made locally. During the First State Beer Week, all 14 of the pub’s taps will be dedicated to microbrews made solely in Delaware.

A craft brewer produces less than two million barrels of beer annually. They are also known for better quality ingredients and purer methods of brewing versus the mass produced beers. Dogfish Head is the state’s first and most well known craft brewery. Dogfish Head grew from humble beginnings in 1995 in Rehoboth Beach to international brand name recognition today.

The pub’s First State Beer Week aims to focus on the many breweries that have opened their doors in the 18 years since. Delaware now ranks 9 in breweries per capita, no small feat for the Small Wonder state.

Twin Lakes (Greenville), 16 Mile (Georgetown), Fordham-Old Dominion (Dover), Stewart’s (Bear), and Dogfish Head (Rehoboth/Milton) are among the breweries that will be represented. Different styles from each brewery will be offered on draft, rotating throughout the week. Brewers from some of the companies will be on hand during the pub’s daily happy hour to meet and greet with anyone interested in stopping by to talk beer.

The pub’s happy hour is from 3 to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sundays. Chef Ian Mangin will also be available to answer any food and beer pairing questions.

The Pickled Pig Pub opened its doors in April of 2009, with the goal of bringing a great variety of quality beers to the region. In pairing with Delaware breweries for this annual event, they hope to continue to raise awareness of the unique and special beers made locally.
