Lewes library seeks applicants for Christopher J. Smail Memorial Scholarship

Graduating seniors must apply by May 31
April 10, 2013

Applications are now being accepted for the 2012 Christopher J. Smail Memorial Scholarship at www.leweslibrary.org/teen_section/scholarships.htm. The $1,000 scholarship is a one-time grant designed to encourage higher education by helping defray expenses including tuition, fees and books. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors from the Lewes community in the current school year.

This scholarship grant is based on three criteria, which include prior work-based or volunteer commitment to the Lewes Public Library, academic ability and financial need. A committee made up of library staff personnel may interview applicants should there be a need for further evaluation. All decisions are final. The scholarship will be paid to the recipient at the time of graduation.

The scholarship, which was established by the Board of Trustees of the Lewes Public Library in 2007, was renamed in 2011 in memory of Christopher J. Smail, a past recipient.

Applications for the scholarship, including references, are due to the library by Friday, May 31.  For more information, contact Library Director Ed Goyda at 302-645-2733 or Ed.Goyda@lib.de.us.
