Car crashes into Paratransit bus

April 4, 2013

A car with seven occupants crashed into a Paratransit bus April 3, sending one child to A.I. DuPont Hospital.

The Paratransit bus was traveling southbound on Sheep Pen Road near Millsboro at about 3 p.m. when it stopped at the intersection of Hardscrabble Road, said Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

A Nissan Altima, driven by a 46-year-old Seaford woman with two adults and four children riding as passengers, was traveling eastbound on Hardscrabble Road when it struck the side of the bus, causing the car to rotate and come to a stop in the intersection, Fournier said.

The bus driver and two occupants were taken to local hospitals for nonlife-threatening injuries. The driver of the car and five others were taken to area hospitals for treatment; a 7-year-old child was flown by Delaware State Police helicopter to A.I. DuPont with unknown injuries, Fournier said.

The road was closed for about two hours.
