Nanticoke Celebrates Doctor's Day; Recognizes Physicians

While National Doctors’ Day falls each year on March 30th, Nanticoke Memorial Hospital’s Medical Staff delayed the celebration  until Wednesday, April 3, 2013 to allow more doctors to be in attendance.  During this year’s Doctors’ Day luncheon, two special awards were presented to two of Nanticoke’s exceptional physicians.

Dr. Marie Wolfgang, an internal medicine physician in Seaford, received Nanticoke’s Service and Commitment Community Award.  Dr. Wolfgang has been a member of the community for over 20 years, providing kind, compassionate and exceptional care to her patients.  Additionally, she is committed to raising money and raising awareness for cancer screenings and prevention in Western Sussex County and throughout the state of Delaware.  “Serving my community is a labor of love,” said Dr. Wolfgang.

Dr. Angel Alicea, a cardiologist with Nanticoke Cardiology in Seaford, received the Nanticoke Medical Staff Leadership Award.  Dr. Alicea has been an integral part of the medical community since the early 1990’s.  He is also a visionary and steady guide, serving in a leadership within the medical staff and for Nanticoke Memorial Hospital serving on a number of hospital planning committees playing a key role in the growth of cardiology services at the hospital.  “This is a great community and I am so happy to be a part of it,” said Dr. Alicea.  The event was hosted by the Nanticoke Medical Staff and Dr. Joseph Kim, Medical Staff President, and awards were presented by Dr. Rick Simons from Nanticoke Cardiology.

Both Steven Rose, President/CEO of Nanticoke Health Services and Kent Peterson, Chairman of the Board for Nanticoke Health Services were on hand for the presentation.  “We could not do what we do without our physicians,” said Mr. Rose.  “They are at the heart of patient care.”  Adding to Mr. Rose’s comment, Mr. Peterson noted, “As Nanticoke continues to grow and provide for our community, we will continue to reach out to our physicians as key members of not just our patient care team but also our organization planning team. Continually improving the Board’s relationship with our physicians remains one of our major goals.”
