Minnie Lewis, former Beebe volunteer

April 7, 2013

Mrs. Minnie Lewis, 81, of Magnolia, formerly of Newark, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013.

Born in Bethlehem Township, N.J., June 30, 1931, Mrs. Lewis was the daughter of the late George Jerolaman and Evelyn Pitney Graham. She made her career in the banking industry, retiring from Delaware Trust after 15 years of service. She later accepted a position with the Christina School District assisting in the operation of the Newark High School cafeteria. Active in her community, she was a longtime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered at Beebe Hospital for many years. In earlier years, she also enjoyed league bowling.

Devoted to her family throughout her life, Mrs. Lewis was a proud and supportive military wife during her husband's many years of service to his country. She always happily welcomed her children's friends into the family home, which became the official neighborhood hangout during their youth. Admired for her willingness and ability to solve problems, she was also affectionately teased by family and friends for her love of complaining!

Mrs. Lewis is survived by her children, Bernadette Robinson (Claude), Jerome Lewis (Vera), Brenda Radziewicz (Steve), George Lewis (Shay), and Harold B. Lewis, Jr.; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold B. Lewis Sr., and daughter, Joanne Lewis. One of 12 children, she was also preceded in death by her 11 siblings.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 9, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Interment will be held privately in Newark Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 3135 Summit Bridge Road, Bear, DE 19701.
