Richard Wachowski, avid sailor

Richard S. Wachowski, 85, of Wilmington, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013.

Rich was born in Warsaw, Poland, April 1, 1928, son of the late Stephan and Josephine Wachowski. A graduate of Brown Vocational High School and Temple University, Rich also served his country as chief petty officer aboard the destroyer USS Corry. He later owned and operated Roblen's Electronics in Wilmington as well as Sea Sun Apartments in Dewey Beach. A longtime member of the Power Squadron and an avid sailor, Rich spent many happy days aboard his boat, The Kit Lyn.

A kind and loving spirit, Rich was generous with his time and skills in carpentry, construction, electronics and auto mechanics. He also cherished caring for his mother in her later years and lovingly fulfilled the dreams of his wife, daughter and grandson.

In addition to his parents, Rich was preceded in death by his sister, Joanne DalGesso of Wilmington. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Kitty) Wachowski of 64 years; his daughter, Lyn Farren and son-in-law Hank Farren of Wilmington; grandson, Craig Farren of Rehoboth Beach; sister, Lillian Himmelberger; brother, Conrad Wachowski and wife Diane; sister-in-law, Marie Rutter and Aileen Bowdle, all of Wimington, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses, staff and clergy of Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis Hospital.

A memorial service will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 10, at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, where family and friends may visit from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Interment will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Rich to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702B Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19805.
